Saris rule our movies. From Shree 420 to Chandni, Devdas to Chennai Express, the whole six yards have always accentuated the demure yet seductive image of our Bolly divas. Not surprisingly, the drapes, the styles and the colours have inspired women all over the country through the years.

This Diwali, take a page out of the filmi diaries and charm people with your adaas, oppa ethnic style! Although Deepika Padukone has already set two ethnic trends this year — the Badtameez cocktail sari (a narrow pallu’s a must!) and the Titli-hued half saris — traditional favourites like the Kanjeevaram can never go out of fashion. Alternately, you can add a touch of glamour by donning drapes in velvet, jute and net. Since it’s festive time, a lehnga sari won’t seem out of place either. Opt for vibrant oranges, shocking pinks, ravishing reds or neon shades. For the less adventurous, monochrome’s a safe bet! When it comes to jewellery, you can never go wrong with jhumka, chaand bali, nath (à la Sonam Kapoor at Cannes) and maang tika. Tribal prints and handloom saris will only establish you as a global fashionista.
Those who can’t handle a sari, the season’s fave floor-length anarkali can be an elegant bet. Shimmer through the Diwali by opting for the white metal look. As they say, glamour needn’t always be yellow!
The backless choli will never go out of fashion, but the waist-length, full-sleeve, high-collar blouse will help keep the chill at bay. Pin some flowers to your styled tresses, add some chunky bangles and you are all set to bring on the fireworks!
